About event

In the performance “xoxo” Filip Kijowski introduces an element of tenderness into public space. His action, taking place in one of the windows in the Old Town, is another reflection of the artist about closeness, as well as the situation when it cannot be shared.

When: 28/09/2021 (Tuesday) at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Galeria Labirynt 2, ul. Grodzka 3, Lublin
Admission: free

Hundreds of kisses hit an impenetrable barrier. Warm breath hits the cold glass. The gesture repeated many times becomes synonymous with unequal struggle. An act of despair? Or maybe just heroism?

“During the pandemic, I heard reports from everywhere about people in hospitals and their relatives who were unable to say goodbye to each other. A kiss that cannot be planted becomes for me a metaphor for not being able to spend this last moment together. Over time, this gesture gained more meaning for me: I thought about those who passed away from my life, as well as the need for closeness and loneliness, which is an important life experience,” says Filip Kijowski.

The sign of tenderness disturbs the anonymity and haste of the rhythm of city streets. It attracts attention, surprises, and wonders. It makes us stop. That little tenderness that falls on us suddenly, for absolutely no reason, can move, embarrass, or induce us to reciprocate.
