Where is art? – workshops at Galeria Labirynt

Can a pressed car be a masterpiece? Mass-produced umbrella or leftover dinner? Why is garbage shown at art galleries? The August workshop at Galeria Labirynt is going to be devoted to the relationship between art and everyday life. Join us and create your own work of art!

“Where is art?” is a series of classes for the youth (11-15 years old) about modern art. The classes are going to be divided into theoretical part, art workshops and performance workshops. The programme is going to be finished with the exhibition at Galeria Labirynt – the opening is going to take place on 5th September at 3:00 p.m.

Discover art!
Theoretical workshops (4th, 5th, 6th, 8th August, 3:00-6:00 p.m.) is going to be a space to watch and discuss objects and art activities from around the world, the matter of which are everyday things. Talking about contemporary art, which does not suit the patterns and triggers bold thinking, we would like to invite participants to express their criticism and own opinion on the presented works. We are going to create an unconstrained space for asking questions. As part of theoretical classes, we are also going to see current exhibitions at Galeria Labirynt (“We Are People”, “Closer Still”). The discussed works of art are going to become an inspiration for the creative work of the participants.

Make art!
During the art workshops (11th, 12th, 13th, 14th August, 3:00-6:00 p.m.) participants are going to design and make their own works. The materials to create the works are going to be found in the basements, in the attics and in the depths of grandma’s wardrobes – we are going to use household junk. We are going to give new forms and new meaning to abandoned and forgotten things. We are going to experiment and create crazy installations.

Show art!
During the performance workshops (21st August, 5:00-7:00; p.m.; 22nd, 23rd August, 12:00-3:00 p.m.) the youth are going to develop their creativity and imagination. Together we are going to look at the design of various home appliances and look for new applications for everyday items. During “mindfulness walks” we are going to try to find unusual and inspiring images in our immediate surroundings. With the help of theatrical and physical exercises, we are going to awaken creativity and curiosity, which later is going to be turned into ideas for our own performance. The workshop is going to be finished with a show during the exhibition opening. Then, the participants are going to become a living work of art!

The programme is going to be finished with the exhibition at Galeria Labirynt and the accompanying catalogue. The exhibition opening is going to take place at Galeria Labirynt on 5th September at 3:00 p.m.

Participation in workshops is free of charge.
