Film constitutes an important medium of artistic expression. The return to this medium can be easily noticed in the creation of modern artists such as Wojciech Bąkowski, Piotr Bosacki, Mateusz Sadowski or Wilhelm Sasnal.

Filmoteka of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw is a project of digital protection and distribution of outstanding films of Polish visual artists of the 20th and the early 21st century. Filmoteka is also a research and educational project.

One of the project’s purposes is to save from oblivion artistic films produced and stored by its creators in private often in amateurish conditions, without institutional custody. These works exist often in one intensively exploited copy. Such films are quite often one of the most outstanding achievements of 20th-century Polish art.
