Vlada Ralko, one of the most famous painters in independent Ukraine, lives and works in Kiev. She graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in 2001. The artist creates large-scale, very fleshy and at the same time very poetic paintings and series of drawings.

In her works inspired by expressionist painting, she raises issues of identity and important socio-political contexts. However, they are always filtered through her personal narrative showing the depth of human emotionality. Fear, uncertainty, and a rupture of subjectivity is found in her works. They push viewers into the subconscious and release atavistic instincts. Ralko often refers to intimate topics like body, sexuality, and femininity, whereby the body is usually entangled in external situation, objectified, very meaty, presented as a subject of oppression. Her works are as if a careful instrument examining social and resonant sensitivity of what is left after the Soviet system that deprives from individuality.

At the exhibition, we present a series of drawings and watercolours from Kyiv Diary, School Wool, China Erotik Diary cycles. They are a kind of emotional diary, commenting on events (Maidan, War in Ukraine) poetic record of emotions and atmosphere of events without factography and documentation.
