WRO on Tour #19 | screening + discussion

Free entrance

WRO on Tour is a touring combination of video works and records selected from an extensive programme of presentations, exhibitions and performances, activities and events, which were taking place during the Biennale WRO. Screenings and discussions of WRO on Tour are organised in cultural institutions and at festivals in Poland and abroad until the next edition of Biennale WRO. In 2017, the International Media Art Biennale WRO held its 17th edition, entitled DRAFT SYSTEMS. The title referred to the variability of the systems organising the world, pointed to their complexity and instability, underlined their changeable nature which defies attempts of control, the constant reorganisation of reality.

The main theme of the presentation at Galeria Labirynt is the distance. The literal interpretation of the notion refers us to geography and space – routine traversing of comon routes, regular repetition of paths, the near and the more distant journeys – the real as well as the imaginary ones. Thanks to technology we can control and administer the distance, unnaturally shorten or move away places and phenomena. In other approaches the concept of distance refers to the sphere of social relations – states of emotional intimacy and sometimes tension, conflict and obstacles. Hence, distance is difficult to define, taking on its meaning depending on the chosen points and perspectives.
