Take Action! Open Network of Cultural Organisers Nowy

01-3-2022 - 31-1-2023

Details

We are initiating an open network and with it a series of meetings of organisers of culture – those working in public institutions in regional capitals, cultural centres in smaller towns, as well as those involved in the activities of non-governmental organisations and informal collectives. Together with you, we would like to create a space for the exchange of ideas and experiences on the work in the cultural sector from the perspective of a multicultural society. In the context of the humanitarian crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border, the Russian aggression against Ukraine or the increasing ethnic diversity in Poland, we feel the need for a new reflection on the mission, the programme, the ways of organising work and relations with the recipients and participants of cultural events.

The idea
The humanitarian crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border, the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the increasing ethnic diversity in Poland are mobilising the cultural environment to think about a new approach to its mission, programme, ways of work organisation and relations with recipients and participants of cultural events. How can we open cultural institutions and activities to a multicultural society at the level of programming, i.e. discussed topics, invited artists, contact with the audience, and employment? How should we diagnose topics that are important for a given minority? Should we create events that are universal or addressed only to one community: its problems, using its tools, in its language, with its actors and artists? How should we define and embody the mission of a cultural institution of today? How can we prepare for the future?

The meetings will take place every two months in different Polish cities and will be hosted by: Malta Festival Poznań, CK Zamek, Pawilon, Polish Theatre (Poznań), European Solidarity Centre and Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre (Gdańsk), Powszechny Theatre and Strefa WolnoSłowa (Warsaw), Łaźnia Nowa Theatre and Multicultural Centre (Kraków), and Galeria Labirynt (Lublin).
