In the 1970s the work of Zofia Rydet (born in 1911 in Stanisławów [now Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine], died in 1997) was dominated by surreal motifs. Using photographic collages, the artist elaborated on wartime experiences and the fear of a new global cataclysm. The series was published separately in 1979 by Krajowa Agencja Wydawnicza as an artistic photo book. The series is one of the iconic works of Polish photography of the 20th century, ranking with the work of such artists as Alina Szapocznikow and Andrzej Wróblewski (defragmentation of the body, person and object, war, and so on).
