Wolfgang Tillmans (born 1968 in Remscheid, West Germany, lives and works in Berlin and London) has influenced contemporary photography by introducing themes associated with club culture, underground fashion and subcultures. He also draws from a range of photographic conventions: still life, reportage, portrait, astrophotography, abstract, landscape, nature and fashion photography, documentary and nude. Recently the artist has presented nature and atmospheric phenomena to convey the turbulent nature of our times—social unrest, political and economic crises, ethnic and ideological antagonism.
