“Yes, That Is What You Think It Is”, 2019
photography cycle
Zbigniew Libera creates objects, installations, photographs, and videos. In his works he explores the social roles and cultural behaviour patterns, he is interested in psychological issues related to upbringing and growing into social order. The artist devotes a lot of his attention to mass culture and the media influencing perception of reality. He explores mechanisms of propaganda and other manipulation. He is one of the leading representatives of critical art. Photography is an especially important part of his artistic output. “Yes, That Is What You Think It Is” series of photos fits in with its character and theme to Libera’s previous photographic projects. The artist has referred before to reality as a projection and to a myth that we are constantly recreating, as a creation built by media and new technologies. Whether the artist refers to facts or creates his own vision can become a key question. It may have either only false answers or various answers that are all equally true.
