“Alphabet (after Amanda Lear)”, 2017
Video, 3’30’’
In 1977, French singer Amanda Lear released the song “Alphabet”, in which she recites letters from A to Z, giving examples of words that have a specific meaning for her and her generation. The song is a mirror of those times, reflecting both the charm and suffering of the late 1970s. While listening to the song today, the following questions arise: What would be the alphabet of our generation? Which words would best describe the year 2017? And finally – what is the best way to choose the most relevant examples? Piotr Krzymowski using Google search engine generated the most searched words as well as pictures illustrating them, creating a unique music video for the song of Amanda Lear. Created alphabet refers to the pace of life of today’s society, its unlimited consumption, endless stream of information, and the need for immediate satisfaction. It also literally depicts images of war and violence. The video suggests that our modern alphabet can be daily interpreted online in real time.
