LESZEK KNAFLEWSKI

Untitled (small cross-book) belongs to a series important in the history of Knaflewski and the Koło Klipsa group of the late 1980s. It makes references to the psychedelic and spiritual interests of the group, and combines surreal and mystical motifs as well as the rigid and dirty aesthetics of punk-rock zines and posters. Knaflewski uses the form of the cross as a metaphor for the human body, also erasing the division between living beings and dead objects. The artist uses the phrase “democracy in communication,” assuming that each element is autonomous and communicates with the others.
