ŞERBAN SAVU

Şerban Savu (born in 1978 in Sighișoara, Romania, lives and works in Cluj-Napoca) alludes to the tradition of classic European painting, particularly French and Italian, including landscapes by Poussin and Lorrain and depictions of peasants by Pieter Bruegel and Jean-François Millet. This painting is part of a series inspired by the realities of Mănăştur, a working-class district of Cluj-Napoca. The figures pose at their workplaces or spend time idly among blocks of flats and garages. The protagonist of the selected painting is a conservator who has found an old propaganda mural.
