“Salvations Island”, 2009
video, 01’03’’

In his works Hubert Czerepok takes up the subject of human condition, the nature of evil, oppression, history as a construct, a conglomeration of facts and fiction as well as civilisation and its achievements as a conglomerate of science, faith, magic, and unexplained paranormal events. Critical approach and a sense of humour is usually seen in his pieces. The artist often uses facts in a perverse and non-obvious way. He mixes them with fiction, creating paradocuments and tracking conspiracy theories as well as alternative history paths. “Salvation Islands” refers to war stories about miraculous survivors that warriors owe to holy books. Like shields or bulletproof vests, the books retain bullets. In the video, the artist refers to three religions and three holy books: Bible, Torah, and Koran. The topic of religion and faith in the context of armed conflicts, political and economic crises and the first climate wars are one of the most current and most difficult contemporary problems on a global scale.
