The artist was one of the creators of land art (landscape art) and monumental environments (the so-called wrappings, e.g. of architecture, islands, coasts), operating in the field of site-specific art, process art, installations and objects. Christo created in collaboration with his wife, Jeanne-Claude Denat de Guillebon (born 1935, Casablanca, Morocco; died 2009, New York, USA).
