Pernicious Predilection is an exhibition inspired by the notion of delectatio morosa taken from the Middle Ages’ scholasticism and transferred onto the context of Polish contemporary art. Presented works serve as a materialisation of persistent visions of the artists, their fears and fantasies, at times reaching extremities of esthetic endurance. Pernicious Predilection attempts to illustrate how contemporary art inscribes itself in the still topical traditions of presenting themes referring to the aesthetics of ugliness, particularly in the context of human body, but also other spheres of life. The exhibition delves into such art issues as imagination, expression, formal solutions in reference to art depicting fantasies balancing on the edge of aesthetics.
