Józef Robakowski is an extraordinary artist and initiator of many important artistic events and actions, a key figure in video art in Poland. He has collaborated with Labirynt Gallery since the 1970s both as an artist and curator. It is hard to imagine the gallery without his participation. It was thanks to him that the first all-Poland video art review ‘Video Art’ took place in Lublin in 1976 and many other events in the following years. He was a co-founder of the avant-garde art group Warsztat Formy Filmowej, which criticised cinematography.
In 1974/1975, he made the film “The Living Gallery”, which is a unique manifesto of the artistic generation of the neo-avant-garde and a unique documentary showing the progressive art of the 1970s. The film features many artists associated with Labirynt at the time. During the meeting we will see this unique work.

The meeting with Józef Robakowski is a unique opportunity to talk to the artist and listen to his story about the history of the Labirynt Gallery and his current artistic activities.

The meeting with Józef Robakowski will be preceded by a performance by Ewa Zarzycka.

The event accompanies the exhibition ‘100 years in Labirynt’.

Accessibility: the event takes place on the ground floor. The bookshop offers the possibility to borrow a wheelchair and noise-cancelling earmuffs free of charge. The gallery has portable induction loops available. Information about the need to use the loops should be addressed to: ksiegarnia@labirynt.com.
