“On February 24 at 6:31 a.m. my partner called me and said: ‘please don’t panic, but they have started bombing Kyiv’. At that moment a new reality began. A reality full of horror and pain. This documentary is about the experiences of queer people during the war,” describes Angelique Ustymenko, the director.

Accessibility: The screening is held on the ground floor. In the bookshop you can borrow a wheelchair and earmuffs for free during your stay in the gallery. The gallery has 6 portable induction loops. Film in Ukrainian with subtitles in Polish and English.

As part of the Artist in Residence project “Queer Station” of the Azyl Library, we would like to invite you to the screening of the documentary film “Ukrainian Queer Fighters for Freedom” directed by Angelique Ustymenko. The film was made in 2022 and tells the story of the war from the perspective of queer people.

The screening will be followed by a conversation in the form of a Q&A.

Bio: Angelique Ustymenko is a queer artist and activist. The artist is part of the group @rebel_queers2. Angelique is currently working on a new documentary about queer people in the Ukrainian army and a short feature film entitled “Before Curfew”. During her residency at the Azyl Library, Ustymenko is working on the post-production of these projects.

The event is a result of an artist residency within the Azyl Library’s new Artist in Residence programme “Queer Station”.
